chocolate brownies

I need to save this somewhere.

Chocolate (Nut) Brownies (Alison Holst)

125g butter
1/4 cup cocoa
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 cup plain flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Heat oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Melt butter until liquid in a
medium-sized pot then take off heat. Using a fork, mix in the cocoa,
sugar, eggs, salt and vanilla essence. Sift in the flour and baking
powder, add the chopped nuts if you like, and stir until evenly mixed.

Pour into a 20-23cm square tin lined with baking paper. Bake for about
30 minutes, or until firm in the centre. (Don’t worry if mixture is
higher at the edges than the middle — it still tastes fine!)

Cut in pieces when cold.

The archives are back

After sacrificing some of my blood to endyminor’s old harddive I’ve been able to rescue most of the data. I have thus successfully restored the archives of this site :)

My First WordPress Widget

I stumbled over the International Earth-Destruction Advisory Board this weekend. They have a nifty little little image showing the current status of the earth; whether it’s been destroyed or not. For some reason it struck me as incredibly nice and silly, so I decided I wanted it on my blog.
However, I wasn’t comfortable with just editing the theme. What if I wanted to move it? – Thus the decision to make it a widget was made.
I googled around a bit and found a nice tutorial of widgets which contained all I needed to do this. And thus the CEDS widget was born. I shall make the source public as soon as I can be bothered to put up a directory structure on alternating.net. In the meanwhile, drop me an email if you want it.

Poking WordPress

After a year it seems I might finally be bothered to get my blog to look somewhat decent again. I guess it’s mostly because Chris was bugging me about it, although it’s one of the things which has been bothering me as well. Now I can safely go back to feeling like I have to write something here as well. And be amusing. Bah. I give up already :p

Testpost

I am trying out a dasboard plugin using the xmlrpc interfae. Wonder if it will work.

How to make OSS code more appealing

I was browsing slashdot today and reading some comments (a sure sign that I’m bored) when I found this little gem. I suddenly realized that following this advice could take my programming to a whole new level. Maybe something to try out at work? ;)

What do you have to do to make your code ‘OSS appealing? I try to write in different colors and decorate the comments with drawings of flowers, pink ponies and those Gnus from Africa (I draw those in brown). I put little hearts over the “i”s and include smiley faces in the output.

The actual comment can be found here and it’s written by fahrbot-bot.

I want this

It’s my birthday soon…

Obey My Evil Red Eyes!

I’m showing off with some borrowed equipment just for the fun of it. First time ever in a drysuit.

Updates

I might eventually get around to restoring the history and doing something with this blag again in this upcoming weekend. Unless I succumb to scuba diving and World of Warcraft ;)

Stuff which is better in Germany

I am sure some people will love seeing me doing a list like this ;)

* Sausages (mmmm, Bratwurst).
* Shop’s opening hours. I liked being able to shop until 8 in the evening.
* No ban on alcohol in ordinary stores.
* Cheap food at cafés and kiosks.
* Better food at the trainstations.
* Bärbel’s jam.
* Salami.

I will probably make a list what’s better about Sweden some day as well…
