iSync plugin for the Sony Ericsson w910i
UPDATE: See this page for the latest version.
I got my new cellphone yesterday and everything was bliss. I was happy. Everything was just great. I was impressed by the nice feel of it, the responsive interface and the form factor.
Today, I wanted to transfer the contacts from laptop to the new phone and the bliss ended. iSync told me the phone wasn’t supported. I became annoyed. I googled. I found a bunch of plugins for sale and I became even more annoyed. It isn’t much money, but I felt loath to pay to get my phone to sync with my laptop. Besides, I stumbled over a guide of how to write a plugin. So I did.
It is very simple to make an iSync plugin in OS X 10.5, all you need to do is to run the iSync Plugin-Maker application. The application is a part of the XCode tools, and no self respecting geek should be without them on their apple computer
This is the result. The plugin is reasonable well tested, and I’m using it myself. It does however not contain the modem scripts, I will add those later.I intend to put up a permanent page with the plugin and register it to macupdates and versiontracker as soon as possible. And keep the source there as well.

so, I´ve spent some happy days with your great plugin, but there´s one thing bothering me: it changes my agenda. every item is shifted one hour ahead as I sync it from ical to the phone.
I would be happy if anyone could give me a tip on how to solve this, I´m not too experienced with neither ical, w910i or isync, so it might be my silly mistake.
thanks for the pluggin. I know, it really bothers me to pay (eventhough it is such an insignificant amount). Thanks again
I am looking into the bug umulia has described and will post a new version once it’s solved.
Until I’ve managed to fix it I hope it won’t bite too many other of you who’re using the plugin
Good for you! Thanks for putting this together.
I have updated the plugin to version 1.0.1 which fixes the bug described by umulia. The new version can be found at my new iSync plugin page.
Awesome plugin dude – great work. Finally I am able to manage my contacts on the Mac.
A few things that I struggled to get to work correctly when syncing the Address Book:
1. Is there a way to only send OR receive contacts and not BOTH at the same time?
2. Address Book phone number fields and W910i phone number fields don’t match up. Some of my contacts have a ‘work mobile’ which is an option on the w910i but on in Address Book. When I add this number in the phone and sync, the contact is sent to phone, edited (‘work mobile is removed’), and then sent back to phone with empty work mobile field.
3. Pictures added in Address Book are not copied over
4. First/Last Name fields are backwards
I’d gladly make a small donation if these small fixes were made!
Great work again and thanx!
Hello Croops,
In reply to your questions;
1: No, iSync is tries to keep both your address book and mobile device synced, which means that it both pulls and pushes changes at the same time.
2: I’m looking into these problems.
3: The w910 does not support syncing pictures with iSync as far as I’ve discovered. The pictures you can use on the phone is not embedded into the contacts.
4: Are you sure this isn’t just a display problem? For example, you might have last names first in your Apple address book, but the w910 always displays first names first.
If you want to donate money, please consider donating to EFF Europe instead.

Andreas
Hi,
Dataconnection over bluetooth is not working anymore after the plugin is installed.
How do I uninstall the plugin?
/Renee
Removed the w910i 1.0.1 phoneplugin from the library and reconnected the phone. Everting is working allright now. Except for iSync
Back at the start…
Andrea,
Any way that you can incorporate a W910 Icon in the isync interface?
I can email a folder icon I already have for USB connection.
Hi Ryan,
I will only use your icon if you have the copyright for it and are willing to release it in the public domain. Up until that point we’re stuck with the current icon until I can be bothered to make an icon of my own
Regards,
Andreas
I am looking into Renee’s problems.
The iSync does come bundled with a modem script, which it shouldn’t. This is a mistake and I will either remove the modem script or make sure that the script actually works.
The modem script can be found in “/Library/Modem Scripts”
The iSync plugin can be found in “/Library/PhonePlugins”
I hope this doesn’t bite anyone else and I will try to fix it as soon as possible.
Regards,
Andreas
Well, no copyright as such.
It’s just a modification of one of the pictures from the Sony website.
We’ll leave it for the moment.
Thanks a lot!
making it so easy and sharing your work with others. One thing I would recommend (for a next version) is if the sync also synchronize the Pictures from the contacts.
Hi Thanks for this puglin it’s working wonders on my machine.
I’ve created an icon for the plugin if you like to include it in your download file:

Just wanted to say Thank You.
Looks great!
It would be great if “to do items” in my Address book would find their place in the “tasks” on the W910i! Thanks for a great job!
Hello,
Thx for your plugin.
But I think I’ve found a bug, to reproduce it:
- Add a contact in your adress book on the mac, add 2 or 3 phone numbers to this contact, save and synchronise.
- Now edit this new contact on the phone, add a picture to its profile and save it.
- Come back to your mac and remove a phone number from this contact, save it and do a new sync.
An error occurs, the contact is removed from the phone and not re-synced later (the only way to re-sync it is to make a modification on the mac to the contact (by adding a phone number on email…)).
Am I the only one?
I enter pictures for a lot of my contacts, and when I modify/add/remove a number or maybe something else, they disappear from my phone…
any issue?
Thanks for your help!
Max

Hello,
You do not have to put your phone in mass storage mode, let it on standard phone mode, just activate bluetooth, this plugin only allow bluetooth syncing.
Then, make a bluetooth association between your mac and your phone, and launch isync, it will find your phone if the plugin was well installed.
I sypathise so mush on the “loath to pay” front. In the best possible way, people like you make the net work. Cheers man.
Andreas man, I can not thank you enough!!!!
Cheers Dude!
This is brilliant, and just what I needed to sync my contacts.
Is there any chance that you could allow an option for one-way calendar syncing? I use Google Calendar subscriptions you see, which are read-only…
Thanks for a great plugin.
hi,

Hi everyone!
It’s great to see that people use my plugin and seem to like it. I’m working on a new version which will hopefully have the timezone issues ironed out once and for all. I’m also working on adding USB support although that one is giving me a bit of a headache.
Photos will not be available since it is not something supported by the protocols as far as I know.
Regards,
Andreas
Hello,
thanks for your work,
Did you see my problem posted on May 10? It’s very boring because I’ve lost a lot of contacts, unfortunately I’m not using the sync since a long time because of this. Am I the only one to have it?
Thanks.
Max
Hi Max,
I don’t think I’ll be able to fix that problem you’ve described completely. I am trying to get it to ignore the photos in contacts, but without much success as of yet.
Besides from that I think that I’ve sorted out USB issues and calender issues.
Regards,
Andreas
Hi, Fantastic plugin thanks. Managed to sync contacts, but sync fails when trying to update calendar. Am running 10.4.11.
Any thoughts?
Heya Shaynep!
What types of events is it you have in your calendar?
/Andreas

Please , could you tell me where can I get the Isync plug-in maker .

anw, thanks for the plugin.
i actually bought the one online. then afew months later i found yours. and i like your w910i icon better, its way cuter. haha.
Hi
Just downloaded your w910 plugin – great! Just one issue – none of the tasks seem to sync?
Fernando, the plugin maker is a part of the xcode tools. Xcode should be on the install cd or can be downloaded for free by registering at http://developer@apple.com
Ian, thanks
It works fine for me to sync contacts as long as they don’t have pictures in them. Do you have pictures in yours?
Jamie, I know, I haven’t been able to get them syncing at all. I have been looking into it but I haven’t managed to achieve anything conclusive.
Is it possible to sync my ical ‘to do items’ with my ‘ tasks’ on my phone? Thanks
Hi Andreas!
I was so frustrated that i couldn’t sync my comp and phone… i googled everywhere and had no hope… but today i stumbled across this blog and thank you for the plug-in!
Happy syncing!

Hi Joop,
I never managed to get that part working, unfortunately. I might look into it some more some day, but not at the moment.

Hi, I’m on an intel macbook pro running OS10.5.6 and seem to have the latest version of iSync as the software updater isn’t asking for a new one.
I’ve installed the latest xcode developer tools but when i try to install your plugin it won’t allow me to install to my hard drive because it doesn’t have the latest version of iSync.
Could you help me out? Is there a particular version in need to find? I’d really love to get this working, this page is my only hope.
I have installed your plugin v1.0.1. Can you please tell me how i can uninstall it? Also, which utilities I might need for it.
Thanks
I have installed your plugin v1.0.1. How can I uninstall it, please?
Thanks
By default, the plugin is installed in /Library/PhonePlugins.
There should be a file in that location called w910i.1.0.1.phoneplugin.
If you delete that file, the plugin should be completely uninstalled.
Cant seem to get the plug in to work have installed it but isync still just trys to use my phone as a mobile… i just wanna get the contacts off it and onto my mac
as a modem rather
Thanks for the plugin, it works great! Just had to answer yes when the phone ask you about the modem option. It would be great to add a nice icon.
This is known that cash can make us independent. But how to act if one doesn’t have cash? The only one way is to try to get the loans or student loan.
